Hawaii Surf Factory Shaper Mike Casey

February 4, 1949, I was born in Ocean Beach California on February 4, 1949.  I graduated from High School in 1967.  I was amember of the surf club called Blacks Surfing Association. At the time, it was the home of the world famous Chanin Surf Board Factory. There are many skillful craftsmen at the factory and began work there in 1967.  I learned every aspect of surfboard production process from the experts at Chanin.  It was an amazing experience.

I came to Oahu in 1977 and found a place to live at Sunset Point. I oculd persue shaping, surfing, sailing, diving and fishing from my new home.  I’ve been making surfboards ever since I became an adult.  I am definately not a production shaper.  I am not about putting out big numbers.  I put everything I have into each shape and I would not feel right letting one board out that I did not think was my best.
